My background is in Comparative Literature. As a reader of novels, I have always been fascinated by literature’s power of contagion, its ability to create ideas and its capacity to generate cathartic release. I am also particularly interested in urban imaginaries and their multiple forms of expression through media, architecture, photography, and literature. My academic work focuses on three distinct thematic issues: urban imaginaries; inventions of the self in literature and visual culture, and representations of Latin American modernities and nation building with special emphasis on Brazil.
